Known for her crafty style of play, she’s the first player to score a goal directly from a corner at the Olympic Games, having done so twice.

Rapinoe played for the women’s national team at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup where the U.S. finished in second place

She won gold with the team at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

During the 2012 London Olympics, she scored three goals and tallied a team-high four assists to lead the team to a gold medal

The 2019 Ballon d’Or winner, Rapinoe made the announcement ahead of USA’s friendly against Wales today, Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Rapinoe is currently preparing to compete for the USA at the Women’s World Cup, which starts this month (July) in Australia and New Zealand.

The USA begin their 2023 World Cup campaign on July 22 against Vietnam before facing the Netherlands and Portugal in Group E.
