The Hateful Eight, the Quentin Tarantino movie that was nearly scrapped by its director when the script leaked in January of last year, will see a limited release on Christmas and come to theaters nationwide soon after.
After the full script leaked online, shortly after Tarantino's first announcement that the film was in production, the irate director said that he planned to scrap the movie entirely and simply publish it as a novel. He seemed to have reconsidered after directing a live reading of the script as a part of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Live Read series three months later, and The Hateful Eight swung back into production.
The Hateful Eight follows eight people who take refuge in a stagecoach during a blizzard a top a Wyoming mountain pass sometime after the Civil War. "No heroes, no Michael Landons," he described the characters to Deadline in Nov. 2014, "Just a bunch of nefarious guys in a room, all telling backstories that may or may not be true. Trap those guys together in a room with a blizzard outside, give them guns, and see what happens."
The movie will hit theaters with 70mm film projectors on Dec. 25, and open to wide, digital release on Jan. 8, 2016.
