WWE Is Interested In Signing Brian Cage When His AEW Contract Expires

If AEW has one major criticism among many, it's that their bloated roster makes it difficult for a lot of wrestlers to get consistent TV time. One of the best examples of that would be Brian Cage, who after becoming one of the biggest stars in Impact Wrestling, signed with AEW in 2020. He was used well in the beginning, before disappearing for months, leading to even his own wife expressing her frustrations publicly. Brian Cage has been back on AEW TV more these fast few months, and he currently wrestles for Tony Khan's Ring of Honor as a member of their World Six-Man Tag Team Champions alongside Toa Liona and Kaun.

According to Fightful Select, however, Cage's AEW contract is set to expire soon. AEW has wanted to extend it due to Brian Cage's time away to recover from injuries. It's a move similar to what Tony Khan recently did with Kenny Omega. Cage is said to be against that and would like to explore free agency. Fightful also reported that WWE "maintained interest" in Brian Cage and possibly signing him whenever his contract does expire.

Would Brian Cage Be Better Off In WWE?

This won't be the first that WWE has shown interest in Brian Cage, who actually worked for their developmental brand, FCW, in 2008 and 2009. According to Cage himself, he had talks with WWE in 2020, but said the company told him, "You are average at best and we are no longer interested."

That opinion is not shared by AEW's Chris Jericho, who last month told Matty Paddock of The Daily Star, "I think Brian Cage over the last six months is the best Brian Cage has ever been. I think he’s finally starting to understand some of the psychology of wrestling rather than just moves and that sort of thing. He is one of a kind with his size and agility, but now there is more intensity and I think he’s really understanding who he is as a wrestler. Six months ago I might have said ‘Well, whatever, if he says that’s cool,' but now I think he has become a way more valuable part of our roster and I would sign him for sure. Absolutely.” (h/t Fightful)

At 39-years old, Brian Cage is seemingly ending the last chapters of his career. WWE may have turned him down before, but with Triple H now in charge of creative, could that change both the mind of WWE and Cage on what happens when his contract expires this time?
